Love to Eat/Hate to Eat Book Discussion: Chapter 2, Question 3

We are getting ready to be out of town (without internet...yes!) for a few days. I wanted to put this up since Friday is our book discussion day, but with packing, etc. I don't have time to answer it myself. I will answer Tuesday or Wednesday. "See" y'all when we get back!

Do you really believe that God can change you? Why or why not? Read 2 Thessalonians 2:13. Why has God chosen you? What specific thoughts or deeds do you think that God wants to change in you in the upcoming weeks? How about months?

Hope you had a great trip.

Here are my answers:

Do I really believe that God can change me? Yes.

(Mark and I were talking only yest. about how we are only hindered in doing great things for God by the smallness of our faith/belief that they can be done.)

Why? Because He has said so. (And because He has already done such a great work in me.)

Why has God chosen me? Because He loves me. He created me to glorify Him. His chosing has nothing to do with me or anything I have done or haven't done.

What specific thoughts or deeds do I think that God wants to change in me in the upcoming weeks and/or months? Pride, love and self-discipline - everything related to those issues/thoughts and deeds.(Too much pride - He has been showing me areas where I have been prideful. He has been calling me to increase my love for others not only in word, but in deed, and He has been calling me to greater self-discipline - esp. in the use of my time.

I have this posted as a reminder to me of what I need to do: Surrender, Self-discipline, Consistency and Commitment.

Even though I no longer have any food issues (I used to - although the opposite of what you are writing about here)I really like the discussion questions. I almost want to read the book just to see what she has to say preceeding the questions...

Dani--I am so glad you have been joining us on the discussion. The book is good and interestingly covers all food-related issues...they all have the same roots.

The principles can actually be applied to many other things that are idols in our lives..anything we go to to meet needs that He alone wants to meet like drugs/alcohol, TV, shopping, even reading and blogging can be idols if done for the wrong reasons.

YES!

Why or why not?
Because He can do anything and because He wants me to be like Him...holy.

Why has God chosen you?
Because He made me and He loves me...He actually delights in me infinitely more than I delight in my own children!

What specific thoughts or deeds do you think that God wants to change in you in the upcoming weeks/months?

Walking by the Spirit...abiding in Him all of the time.

Complete obedience with my eating, thoughts and time (among other things!)

Becoming a woman who prays continuously.

Denying myself even to the point of embracing suffering with gratitude.

Thank God that it is HE who is at work in me both to will and to do for His good pleasure!
