Modesty Quiz 2
Nancy Leigh DeMoss: What do you believe about clothing and modesty? Here’s a quick true-or-false quiz to help you get started thinking about the issue.
“True or false? Modesty means being outdated, dumpy, and unattractive.”
Nancy: That’s false. We may not be able to wear all the popular trends, but it really is possible to be modest and fashionable.
“Our clothes and appearance reveal a lot about our values, characters, and beliefs.”
Nancy: That one’s true. A woman’s clothing and appearance are powerful nonverbal communicators of what she believes.
“What I wear isn’t anyone else’s business. I should be free to dress however I want.”
Nancy: And that’s false. Everything we do, including the way we dress, affects others. As Christian women, we want to be sensitive to the men around us and not put any temptation in their path.
Would you ask God to help you glorify Him in what you wear?

Do I ever struggle with this. It's not that I struggle so much in my mind, it's in finding clothes that I deem modest and comfortable. Shirts are my biggest problem. Given that I'm "blessed" if you will, shirts always want to cling, are cut too low and even the button up ones seem to be buttoning lower and lower. I don't want to walk around in a baggie t-shirt all day either though.

If anyone thinks they're a modest dresser they can come test it by working in the nightshelter. Things that I would wear anytime, anywhere, I've suddenly become far too aware of how revealing they can be after working in a house of nearly 18 homeless guys! I still try to dress fashionable, I just make sure if it's a low cut shirt I have something underneath it. And I'm more aware of what I wear when I'm not at work. If i do happen to wear something that tends to ride down ('cause quite frankly I don't have $$ to buy a whole new wardrobe) then I keep a scarf on. That's the perk of living in England now -- it's COLD enough most days for a light scarf.
Well, Tami...I don't have your "problem," but I do find that shirts are cut way too low often. (That and they are often too short. That trend isn't as popular now, though.)
Anyways, I bought a cute pink shirt that after wearing it, I realized that when I bend over it is very revealing so I just wear a white tank/camisole underneath.
Boo, I am glad you are thinking twice about what you wear around all those men!! :-)
